Jean-Pierre
(or “JP”) Schroeder joined the staff-team
at St James’ from the beginning of July 2008,
thereby doubling the full-time team from one to two!
JP has taken on the role of Garlinge Evangelist and
is also involved in ministry in the life of the
parish as a whole.

INTRODUCTION
BY JEAN-PIERRE
My name is Jean-Pierre Schroeder
my wife is Debra and we have two sons Joel (4) and
Sam (2, by the time you read this). Both Debra and I
hail from Cape Town, South Africa.
We are no different to any other family, we work, we
play, we disagree on things, we go on holidays, we
watch movies, we BBQ, etc.
Since completing my theological studies, St James'
will be the fifth church family I will have the
privilege to serve in. Our previous churches
were St James (Cape Town), St Timothy’s, St
Andrews (Hampshire) and St Elizabeth’s (Northern
Ireland).
We all very much looking forward to working and
serving at St James because it will allow us to do
what we love best – to tell people about Jesus;
what he has achieved and what he will do in the
future.
To some this may sound rather boring but it’s
not because so many people who have the wrong idea
about him when they find out who the true Jesus is
are transformed - it’s powerful stuff. It
happened to me as teenager and I have seen it happen
over and over again.
Not everyone responds in this way of course but I
would like every person, in Garlinge in particular,
over next few years to make an informed decision
about Jesus.
In between me doing all this I will get on with the
normal things of life like most people do. I hope to
be able to take up golf and, if possible join a local
cricket club.
